Abstract

Handwritten note on verso reads, "SMC Railroad Station and the Sacramento Northern Trains. Pictured here is the Sacramento Northern Electric freight hauler, and switch engine. When the passenger service was discontinued, the freight hauling [went] on for a time. And during the passenger service days, the freight trains were more frequent than the passenger, particularly during the fruit crop season. The air horns, both of the passenger and freight, could be heard on the campus, and for great distances. The passenger trains had the practice of blowing their warning horn on the curve and under the bridge area as they rounded into view heading West, and toward the campus station. Pictured here is the last train, freight engine -- to run its passage by the SMC station." The date on this picture is listed as 2/28/1957.
